The Latin American & Latinx Studies minor offers an interdisciplinary lens on identity, migration, politics, literature, art and lived experience across the Americas. Through small classes, close faculty mentorship and experiential learning, you will build strong cultural awareness and analytical skills that prepare you for work in education, community engagement, healthcare, public service and global industries.

Why Study Latin American & Latinx Studies at Linfield?

This minor helps you develop cultural understanding, global awareness and critical thinking skills valued across professions. You’ll explore the histories and contemporary issues shaping Latin America and Latinx communities in the United States, while building intercultural competence aligned with nationally recognized frameworks such as the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). The program pairs well with majors in Spanish, history, political science, sociology, education, communication arts, psychology and global studies.

°ÅÀÖÊÓÆµ offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to help reduce the cost of college. When you apply for admission, you’ll automatically be considered for many Linfield scholarships. Additional scholarships are available based on academic interests, achievements, life experiences and personal background.

Pathway: Latin American & Latinx Studies Minor (20 credits)

A flexible interdisciplinary minor that can be completed in two years depending on placement and course sequencing.

  • Open to students in any major
  • Coursework begins at SPAN 201 or 290 (based on placement)
  • Includes both study abroad and non‑study abroad options
  • Common pairings include: History, Political Science, Sociology, Spanish, Education, JAMS, Psychology and Global Studies

Students gain a strong foundation in cultural analysis, social justice perspectives and the historical forces shaping Latin America and Latinx communities.
