Learning Across Boundaries

Mission statement

LAB provides the Linfield Community with a physical and intellectual space to collaborate on work that crosses boundaries, whether they be geographic, disciplinary, racial, ideological, symbolic, or material. LAB brings together threads of the Linfield experience under one centralized hub with curricular, social, community, teaching, learning, and justice components. In doing so, LAB supports Linfield's mission of “connecting learning, life, and community.” Forging new collaborations across boundaries, the LAB centers experiential learning, mutually beneficial service, and interdisciplinary projects.

Current initiatives

LAB is currently made up of three major initiatives: Civil Rights in the US, Environmental Responsibility, and finally Teaching, Learning, and Writing. In addition to these initiatives, LAB hosts its annual Summit which focuses on a key topic and consists of multiple events in one week.

Finding Strength Through Story
Hear how two Linfield community members transformed personal challenges into meaningful narratives through storytelling. By sharing experiences of migration, identity and self-acceptance, they show how vulnerability can foster connection, confidence and understanding.

A Peaceful Journey
In addition to her undergraduate studies, Sabrina Heizenrader '25 quickly found a place in Linfield’s Learning Across Boundaries (LAB), where student-led initiatives aim to help the greater Linfield community. Her focus with LAB this year is on mental health.
